The traditional retail pharmacy model is plagued by inefficient processes and poor customer service.
When NowRx Pharmacy was launched, the goal was to create a better pharmacy.
In other words, one that was more convenient and customer friendly for everyone.
However, this meant rebuilding the traditional pharmacy operations model from scratch and, as a result, changing the way a pharmacy interacts with its customers.
And like anything new, that has raised quite a few questions.
Here are the 5 most common NowRx Pharmacy FAQs.
FAQ 1: What Exactly is NowRx Pharmacy?
The question we get asked most often, especially from new customers is:
What exactly is NowRx Pharmacy?
Is it just a delivery service like DoorDash? No.
Is it a mail order pharmacy? No.
So what is NowRx?
NowRx Pharmacy is a local retail pharmacy just like any CVS or Walgreens.
We have physical locations in all the areas we service.
Your doctor can send us a prescription electronically, by fax or you can bring us a paper copy.
We can fill any medication including controlled (e.g. Adderall, Methadone, etc.) and we offer a wide range of non-prescription items like over the counter meds, supplements, or vitamins.
The main difference between us and those other retail pharmacies: We use modern software automation and intelligent logistics to provide a better pharmacy experience.
This better experience includes things like free medication delivery in hours, better customer service, better drug prices, streamlined insurance processing and more.
FAQ 2: How Do I Use NowRx Pharmacy?
Another common questions we get is: How do I use NowRx?
Simply put, just like any other pharmacy.
New Prescriptions
For a new prescription, i.e. a prescription your doctor is writing for the first time, you tell your doctor to send the prescription to NowRx.
Depending on your office, they can send it electronically through ePrescribe or by fax, but the process is the same as any other pharmacy.
Once we receive the prescription, we call you to confirm the delivery and collect payment before delivering the medication to you within 3-5 hours.
Transfer Prescriptions
For a prescription that is already being filled at another pharmacy, the process is even easier.
You can transfer a prescription in two ways.
- Use our Online Transfer Prescriptions Form; or
- Text a photo of your current prescription bottle to (844) 466-6979
Once we have received your prescription transfer request, we will call you to confirm the delivery and collect payment before delivering the medication to you within 3-5 hours.
Refill Prescriptions
The process of refilling a prescription with NowRx Pharmacy is very similar to the process of transferring a prescription with one additional option.
- Use our Online Prescription Refill Form; or
- Text a photo of your NowRx prescription bottle to (844) 466-6979
- Set your prescriptions with NowRx Pharmacy to auto-fill
Setting a prescription to auto-fill just means that we will automatically fill and deliver your prescription at the next approved refill date set by your insurance company.
We will always notify you of upcoming refills and keep you updated on their status by text.
If we discover that your prescription is out of refills, we will even contact your doctor on your behalf – with your permission of course!
FAQ 3: How Does NowRx Pharmacy Make Money?
The next most frequently asked questions we get is: If NowRx doesn’t charge for delivery, how do you make money?
Well, just like any other pharmacy.
Most people would be surprised to learn that customers are not how a pharmacy makes 95% of its revenue.
Wait what?
That’s right, since over 95% of prescriptions are paid for using insurance most pharmacy revenue comes from a customer’s insurance company.

It’s similar to how your car insurance works.
When you get in a car accident, you take your car to a mechanic or dealership.
You pay a portion (your deductible) and then your insurance covers whatever the mechanic charges beyond that. In other words, for a $2500 repair, you might only pay $500, while your insurance covers the remaining $2,000.
The pharmacy is similar to the mechanic in this respect. The pharmacy charges you a small portion (e.g. a $5 copay) and insurance covers the remaining amount.
FAQ 4: How Does NowRx Pharmacy Ensure Safe Delivery of My Medications?
Well first, all of our drivers are employees of NowRx.
In other words, you cannot just go online and sign up to be a NowRx Pharmacy driver, e.g. Uber or DoorDash.
Our drivers go through an interview process, extensive background checks, HIPAA compliance training, in addition to our own NowRx training to ensure they meet the high expectations we set for each interaction.
Additionally, once they are hired on there are strict requirements for every delivery.
From cameras in our vehicles to bar code scanning, tamper proof bags, and photo verification there are a number of safeguards to prevent theft, tampering and/or medication mixups.
FAQ 5: How Does NowRx Pharmacy Afford Free Delivery in Hours?
Finally, the most frequently asked question we get at NowRx is: How do you afford free same-day prescription delivery?
Answer: low overhead and extreme efficiency.
We pay less than $2 per sq. ft for our 5,000 sq. ft. for our pharmacy centers, compared to a traditional retail pharmacy that pays almost $6 for prime retail space.
Our proprietary pharmacy management software allows us to automate the redundant tasks in the pharmacy. This includes things like insurance processing, applying manufacturers coupons, etc.
Our robotics allow us to fill a prescription in under 30 seconds opposed to manually counting out every pill and our internal logistics platform allows us to triage deliveries and optimize the number of deliveries per route.
All of these things add up to cost savings and efficiencies that enable free prescription delivery in hours.
We cover this more in depth in our blog How NowRx Pharmacy Offers Free Prescription Delivery in Hours.
